Letter to a Son of the Land 1974

It is for me to husband the land
So if you would walk with me
Don’t stay too long in the City

My wealth lies in ground and sky
So if you would walk with me
Don’t spend yourself on the many merchants
Remember your soul
Don’t stay over long in the City

For me, to live is the Way
Simple
Heirlooms of earth, and water and sky
For me, it is to build this Holy Ground here
With green pasture and golden grain
Oil and raisins and honey
Simple
Gifts beloved of God

If it is for thee, as for me,
Then hammer your sword into a plowshare
And don’t look back on the City.
