Liquid Pearl

    Liquid Pearl                Nov. 14 2005

The earth is a swirling embryo
From where I sit, cherishing her
Her blood is blue, her breath a vapor
Swaddling her in clouds like cotton strands

From such a height, there is absolute cold
And from such a distance, it is serene and luminous
But I know that deep within her core
There is absolute heat
And upon her distant shores, all unrest

This great manifest
Great and profound
Such great beauty
Such looming sorrow
So fragile, so old.

Yet each generation blooms a hundred fold
Learning each time anew
Those same old behaviors I have watched
All her days.

Have you learned yet, my love?
There is a beginning, and there is an end.
It is not so strange after all,
That I have cherished you from the beginning
And will see you to the end.
Is there ever anything new?

Well. yes.  One day
An embryo swells to the end of the womb
And a body travels to the end of the earth
And isince you can't go back,
You must break the old connection and abandon all that is known...
Earth too will have her day.
It is not so strange.
