Sailing With Friends 6/8/98
It was a big step to get into the boat
But my friend reached out, and I boarded
Time dissolved.
There was just the water and the gust
And skimming across the deep
With the light dancing all around.
My sailors clowned back and forth like cubs and we laughed
But I was full of silence
Like a deep peace, deeper than that deep mountain lake.
Even skimming the surface of the laughing water
The anchor of the heart was held so firmly
Like Excelsior in the anvil
Awaiting the hand of the one to whom the promise was given.
