The Moon

The Moon 12/20/02

Last night the moon was set like an eye of pearl
In the deepest of velvet space
And she rose free and clear like a clipper unfurled
Bright and perfect in circle and grace

And the lights on the houses are tiny and bright
As she moves like a queen in the sky
With a beauty unapproaching the tinsel of man
So serene, she ascends to her height;
So serene she will bow at the drapes of the land

This night the moon is set like an orb of pure gold
In a cloak of vapor cloud
And her golden glows down like the seraphim’s aura
As I watch all transposed by her splendor

And the lights on the houses are tiny and bright
As she glories aglow in the background
With a light undefined by the tinsel of man
Muted music she’ll rise wondrous round
Undetected she’ll set, unalloyed by the land

O, I am stilled, transfixed by her way
By her eye,  as it opens and closes
By her modest apparel and whispering way
By her arcs and her unstudied poses

She is intent on her Tryst, all bright and slow
Or haloed with mist from below
Commanding the backdrop, great stone on the wing
What sonatas and songs does she bring
A Queen ever true to her King

As clear as the face of the moon in its fullness
As opaque as the shades of the clouds
With a glow pouring down like seraphim’s auras
And I watch all transposed by her splendor
I watch all transposed by her splendor
