Speaking June 23 2007
How grateful I am for the letters and words that make it clear
That I am not alone in my sorrow, or my distress; my pain, my anguish.
That you honor my honest and bitter tears.
With your help I build a vision of light, and of life,
That has promise and hope, and love . Peace.
Aware that we are not black and white
But full color,
Blood red and gall green and welder’s flame blue, and thistle purple,
Hot metal orange and weedy yellow.
Courage I need to see that vision future now happening
Speaking the things that are not, as though they were
Being bold in my requests and not hesitating to cover myself
With the hem of your garment.
My path is still littered with little thorns and tiny scorpions
And I am hedged
Cut me the path you already see and make it shine
Creatures of the dark you must withdraw and let me pass.
If God does not see you in his future, then I declare you do not exist even now
Just a vapor gassing off in the rising strength of the light
No shadow there
You said I would not be moved would ten thousand fall at my right side
You said I would stand, and I invoke your promise
That having done all
I stand
And in your presence
With joy
