The Gift Sept 19 2005
I made my peace with my mother
I made my peace with my dad
I made my peace with the God that I dreaded
And when he opened his heart to me
There were all the worlds to see,
And love enough for me
She carried her world like a child on her hip
She’d move heaven and earth to bring it all together
What they knew and what they gave
He carried the world like a child upon his shoulder
He’d move heaven and earth to bring it all home
But he didn’t show it
I couldn’t know it
What they knew and what they gave
And somewhere high above, and deep within, I made my peace
I made my peace with my mother; I made my peace with my dad
I made my peace with the God that I dreaded
When he opened his heart to me
He carried the world like a tree
He moved heaven and earth to bring it all home
What they knew and what they gave
That there were all the worlds to see
And love enough for you and me
Still trying to make my peace with my brother
Still trying to understand
But I believe
One day we will see eye to eye
All the worlds there are to see
Maybe you couldn’t show it
I didn’t know it
What you are and what you give
What you see and what you live
All the worlds to see
Love enough for you and me
